Living in the Open

Came across an interesting site this weekend. It is the site for an artist, Hasan Elahi,  who the Feds wrongly assumed might be a terrorist. The guy had the brilliant idea of putting his whole life online. It is crazy, but pretty cool  He has a GPS device that constantly shows on his website where he currently is. He has a list of all of his purchases including where and the date. There are endless photos of places where he has gone including pictures of what he has eaten. Talk about courage. Completely exposing your life to the whole world. On the plus side, he hasn’t gone to jail since and he has good evidence about what he has been up to. Interestingly according to an interview I read his server shows hits from the Defense Department, so I guess the government is still watching him good thing he is living in the open. For the ultimate in living a life of transparency check out his website, trackingtransience.net.

Social Change

In the 1960s-1970s many on the far left believed that a revolution was coming. They tried to create social change at times through extreme social actions, what some today might call terrorism. Although these were interesting experiments no revolution occurred and further one has to wonder if the actions they took justified the end result they were seeking. Even further can a few individuals take a revolution into the direction they wish it to once it has begun. I doubt it. I think it comes down to whether society as a whole is ready for a change. Change often occurs slowly without those who are taking part in the process even realize it is occurring. That doesn’t mean people sit by and do nothing. People should stand by their conscience. People should consider the world as a whole and how their actions may impact others. The trick is everyone has different ways of seeing things, different interpretations of the correct course of action.
