Web 2.0 Challenge

I am currently about to embark on taking the Web 2.0 challenge from Infopeople. This is modeled after the program developed by the Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Library in North Carolina. You should check out their website and just by taking a look you can see how this is one library really pushing forward technology within the library. To me this is a pretty good indication of the direction libraries may be headed in the future. I think they are doing a pretty good job of bringing technology to their user and making current web technologies an integral part of their services.

I am partly doing this program through my work, so this will be a great way to get me familiar with some of the current trends with web technology and give me some time to actually post on my blog. Anyhoo, stay tuned in the weeks ahead as I explore the wonderful technologies that are changing our world.

School

The past few months has been really occupied with school. I’m slowly learning to juggle the various things I need to do with what time I have. Grad school is a great intellectual exercise that hopefully will give me more opportunities once I graduate. I feel bad in some ways though that it occupies so much of my time. I had a blog last year that I posted constantly too, but it seems since launching this one this year I haven’t spent much time on it at all. I hope that I will be able to spend more time posting in the future, but for now I have to focus on what is most important my schooling. As time goes along I would hope that I can juggle some more time in to post, but I’ll see. Next week classes start up again for the summer, so once again I’ll find myself in a whirling rush of papers, assignments, discussions, readings and projects. Ahhh, school….

The downside of blogging

I am currently pulling the link to my class blog. Due to unforseen events that link was used in a malicious fashion. For anyone who discovered the malicious posting, including the offensive statements before it was pulled I sincerely apologize.

I guess I am learning a valuable lesson. Although the Internet can be used to inform, entertain, and communicate ideas it can also be used maliciously by others for a variety of reasons. For me personally, even though I may have known that, it never seemed to be such a realistic possibility until something happened. I realize now that no matter what our intentions are, no matter what I try and do with my blog or my creative ventures there is always the possibility that someone could misunderstand, take things the wrong way or act out for sadistic or ulterior motives against me. I guess that is life.

We act in good faith, but must be aware that not all the world looks at or responds in the same way. Not everyone out there is pleasant and respectful. We should move through life doing our best to be ourselves, respect others, and not to let negativity pull us down. For me, I know now to be more aware and cautious, but don’t think that I will stop being me, will stop expressing my thoughts or opinions, or stop letting my creative muse run free. I’m still here with a smile and willing to when I get a chance in this busy world to post or work out my creative drive.

Peace and love to all!
